Community Guidelines

We created Secret to give people a new way to freely share and connect with friends. We believe anonymity empowers people to share their deepest thoughts and feelings, sparking genuine conversations that would otherwise be impossible. Words are at the center of every secret, and it is our hope that our users will help us create a community that is a safe and liberating place for users to authentically express themselves. By using Secret, you agree to abide by these Community guidelines.

Do

  • Use anonymity for good. We believe in providing a place where you can connect with friends on a more candid and personal level. Being anonymous among friends isn’t possible anywhere else. Be responsible, and let’s make Secret a great community.
  • Share yourself openly and honestly. It’s hard to contribute anything online without it being searchable and connected to you forever. Secret lets you be yourself and share without judgment. From silly nothings to sincere sentiments, speak freely.
  • Be kind and respectful. Remember, you’re among friends. The best conversations happen when they’re supportive, constructive, or ridiculously hilarious. Be considerate of others, even if you can’t see behind the mask.
  • Report bad behavior. We rely on you, our users, to keep Secret a safe and constructive platform for quality content. If there is something you see that is not in keeping with the spirit of Secret, then we want you to inform us as soon as possible. Flagging is the fastest and easiest way to let us know if you see something that you believe violates our guidelines. We review all content that’s flagged to us, and we will, if necessary, ban users who aren’t adhering to our guidelines.
  • Have fun. At the end of the day, everyone just wants to have a good time. Keep an open mind and make the most of Secret.

Don’t

Users must recognize that with anonymity comes responsibility. By using Secret you agree not to post the following types of secrets:

  • Don't post threats. Safety is Secret's first priority. We will delete content and we reserve the right to escalate to law enforcement if we perceive a real risk of harm to others. Do not credibly threaten others, organize acts of violence, vandalism or other criminal activity, or recruit for or support organizations with a record of violent criminal or terrorist activity on Secret. We also prohibit organizing vandalism or theft on our site.
  • Don't share or encourage self-harm. Do not share, promote or encourage any self-harm behaviors, including self-mutilation, eating disorders, and harmful drug abuse. If you see such posts, please report them to us through our flagging system.
  • Don't bully or harrass. While you may speak broadly on people, companies, and issues in the public eye, don’t post any content that is abusive, threatening, defamatory, bullying, or harassing.
  • Don't post hate speech. While we expect, and believe that it is positive, that people will use our site to challenge institutions, events, beliefs, ideas, and practices, you agree not to post any hate speech, including secrets that attack people based on their race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, sex, gender, sexual orientation, disability or medical condition.
  • Don't post graphic content. Secret is a place where words matter most. While we love seeing how our community expresses themselves through imagery, we want our users to create and consume content that is not distracting from the spirit of Secret. As a result, do not post any images that are excessively graphic, including images that depict gratuitous violence or that include bodily fluids or excretions.
  • Don't post obsenity or pornography. Do not post any secrets that contain content that is obscene, pornographic or sexually explicit or that include nudity.
  • Don't post people's private information. On Secret people connect secretly in order to encourage authentic communication. In that spirit, do not publish otherwise private personal information about other people including, but not limited to, names, email addresses, addresses, phone numbers, and bank account information.
  • Don't post things that don't belong to you. When sharing on Secret, be sure you have the rights to use the content you post. Respect copyrights, trademarks, rights of publicity and privacy and other legal rights.
  • Don't post spam or harmful or illegal content. Don’t post spam or content intended for commercial purposes, such as driving traffic to other sites. Also, don’t use Secret as a channel to compromise accounts elsewhere or post any content that is illegal or may cause any harm to, or violate the rights of, other people.

Secret is not responsible for what its users post, and Secret does not guarantee that Secret will be free from content that violated the foregoing guidelines. While we are not obligated to monitor or remove content posted by users, we reserve the right to do so in our sole discretion, including content that violates these guidelines.

Enforcement of these guidelines is solely at Secret’s discretion. Failure to enforce these guidelines does not constitute a waiver of our right to enforce them, nor do these guidelines create any obligations to users or any third party beneficiary rights or private rights of action.
